Web 2.0

Definition:

Web 2.0 is a term used to describe a perceived second generation of the web and design, with unifying concepts (aims and objectives) that mainly involve the secure exchange of information via computer software or systems (interoperability) and peer-to-peer interaction between users on the World wide web.
These concepts mentioned, gradually have led to the development and evolution online communities, social networks, encyclopaedias as well as blog pages and video-sharing.
The whole idea of Web 2.0 had arose after a Web 2.0 conference in 2004, hosted by O’Reilly Media. This conference was to acknowledge the changes occuring during the web, not altering the specifications for using the web, and to bring new insight as to how the web can now be utilised.

Tim O’Reilly mentions that:

Web 2.0 is the business revolution in the computer industry caused by the move to the Internet as a platform, and an attempt to understand the rules for success on that new platform”

Tim O'Reilly (2006-12-10). "Web 2.0 Compact Definition: Trying Again". Retrieved on 2007-01-20.
